Wright Family Notes . . .

The Wright family immigrated from Alabama to Simms, Bowie Co., Texas in 1860. During the Civil War Elbert Lewis Wright enlisted on 14 May 1862, and served in Co. 'D' 23rd Regiment Texas Calvary. From: "Justin M. Sanders"
"The 23rd Texas Cavalry was indeed led by Col. N.C. Gould. Formed in early 1862. It's primary action appears to have been in the Red River Campaign in Louisiana (a good history of the campaign is Ludwell Johnson's book "The Red River Campaign"). Primary battles in which the 23rd would have been engaged are Mansfield (8 Apr 1864), Pleasant Hill (9 Apr 1864) and Yellow Bayou (18 May 1864).
