Roberta was an excellent seamtress. She made the outfit she is wearing above on the right, and sewed many
wonderful clothes for my sister and me as we grew.

She even had her own TV show for Pfaff, about 1956 in Wichita KS.

OBITUARY:
ROBERTA VIOLET GIRNDT
   Roberta V. Girndt -Kelly, 73, of Houston TX, died 10 Aug 2003 of emphysema. Born on 18 Dec 1929 in Newton KS she was the delight of her parents, Murrel Leta Young & Robert Paul Girndt, that Christmas season. While growing up, Roberta and her sister, Lu, were know as the "Girndt Girls". She doted on her baby sister, Gail. In 1947 she graduated from Newton HS, and was married to Jack R. Nelson (dec. '88) on 31 Aug 1947. They lived first in KC, a job offer moved them to San Mateo CA, then later to Wichita KS. Divorced in 1959, Roberta and the girls moved to Houston TX, and she married Robert J. Barrus on 18 Mar 1961.

   Always having a talent for fashion & flair, Roberta learned to sew the latest fashions to compliment her beautiful smile, and to dress her pretty little girls. In Wichita, for a short while, she even had a TV sewing show for Pfaff in the 50's, and later sold homes for Robin Hood real estate. With the addition of twin sons in Houston, Roberta became a stay-at-home Mom. Divorced in 1968 from Bob Barrus (dec. '98), Roberta ('Bobbi') stayed in Houston and married twice more, Bob Duncan & Bill Kelly, both deceased.

   Survivors include a daughter: Dian D. Wright, Great Lakes IL; sons: Robert P. Barrus, Houston TX and
Joseph D. Barrus, San Diego CA; granddaughter: Danielle (Dandi) M. Wright, Austin TX; step- granddaughter Christina M. Vaughan, Pulaski TN; grandson: Paul J. Branco (Terry's son), Wardell (Audie) C. Wright Jr., Dallas TX and N. Beau Wright, Providence RI; sisters: Mary Lu Mayer, Topeka KS & H. Gail Hale, Osceola MO;
and step-great grandchildren: Sidney Bloom & Brittany Vaughan (Christi's children). Her first daughter, Terry Lynn Nelson, died in 1990.

   Capt W. C. ('O.W.') Wright Sr., USN, officiated at the services held on 10:30am, 14 Aug, Thurs, at Davidson Funeral Home. Roberta was buried, next to her daughter, Terry, in Mt. Hope Cem., Topeka KS.
